25 mile time trial

32nd Bill Philbrook Memorial 25 Mile Time Trial
Sunday 5th May 2019

This event was promoted for and on behalf of CYCLING TIME TRIALS under their rules and regulations.

Wigmore CC and the Philbrook family would like to say thank you for supporting this year’s Bill Philbrook Memorial 25 Mile Time Trial and contributing to the success of our event.

Unfortunately, the race was shortened to a 10mile time trial on the Q10/6 due to roadworks, a blessing in disguise perhaps as there were a few sighs of relief due to the cold but dry conditions of this year’s event. The turnout was still very good for the amended course, so thanks to all the riders.

Event Sec: Martin Trice

Chris Fennell, last year’s winner of the Bill Philbrook Memorial was once again victorious, setting a new course record with his time of 20 minutes dead, removing 1m 50s from the previous course record of 21:50.

Emma Lewis produced a stunning ride to win the ladies competition and take fourth overall, taking an impressive 2m 20s off the previous record of 24:36

Neil Lauder held the course record for just nine minutes with his equally remarkable time of 20:37

The team prize was taken by VeloRefined.com Aerosmiths led by 2017 winner Andrew Meilak and supported by Mark Hill and Paul Smith.

Andrew also won the vets competition for the third year running.

The Philbrook family donate a trophy to the event for the fastest member of the Wigmore CC as the promoting club. Rodney Smith was the fastest rider home and will take the trophy at the end of the year.

As always, a big thank you to all of the timekeepers, marshals and supporters who helped to ensure everything went ahead safely and smoothly. We have a core group of people who regularly support this event, to whom we are all extremely grateful, as without them we would be in danger of not being able to run the event at all. Similarly, we also had some new faces joining us this year to help with marshalling duties, which is important for the continued success of time-trialling.

Timekeepers: Paul Mepham and Vic Williams
Recorder and assistant: John Clegg
Signing in/out: Reg
Pushing off: Robert Philbrook
Results board: Martin Trice
Chief marshal: Antony Bee
Marshals (Chilham): John Booty, Paul Buckley & Dave Bedford
Marshals (Canterbury): Paul Gatenby, Kevin Ford & Jamie Harris
Tea and cakes: Laura, Hanna, Anna, Jess & Alison (Philbrooks)

A big thank you to the Philbrook family who helped to ensure all the roles on the day were covered and continued to maintain the association between Bill Philbrook and the Wigmore Cycling Club.
